During a meeting with her lawyer, 21 year old Chantal Lawrence is surprised to learn that she has been left a fortune by her French mother, Madeleine, who died 17 years earlier in unexplained circumstances. When Chantal comes across a bundle of old letters giving details of a clandestine liaison between her mother's closest friends, she embarks on a quest to unravel the mystery, little realising that she is putting herself in danger.
