An Ireland and James mystery
Constable Sherwood is on a mission. He’s transferred from the Met to sleepy Brookminster in the West Country, looking for the man who killed his mother when he was just a baby. Unfortunately, Brookminster Detective Inspector Michael Ireland and his sergeant, Jacob James, don’t want anyone re-opening this particular cold case. Is Sherwood’s information right? Was Ireland involved in the killing?
Against a backdrop of mistrust and animosity, Sherwood stays true to his quest in spite of his growing admiration for Ireland. The man appears to be popular, hard-working and honest – but is he? And if he’s innocent, why is the case file missing? Someone has something to hide.
As the investigation continues, Sherwood retreats to a safe house, hoping to solve his mother’s murder at last. Will he succeed, or will his refuge become a place of execution..?
