This anthology contains writing both from the Swanland U3A creative writing group and from students of the Swanland School in Nairobi, Kenya. The school is based in a very poor area and offers educational opportunities to children who otherwise would not be able to access education. The writing deals with the experiences of childhood and the preoccupations, people and places that make them special. The contributions from the Kenyan students (average age 10) and their teachers show a community, school and family life very different to that enjoyed by young people in the U.K. For many of the students, Swanland Village School has been their first consistent experience of education. I am sure you will agree with me that they have tried very hard with their writing.
