Honey from Dorabjees

A story of two years in the Indian city of Pune volunteering (through VSO) with people with HIV and AIDS. The author was still grieving for his late wife, and he takes an emotional as well as an actual journey. He writes of the community he lives with, the friendship and support he meets, and the difficulties and rewards of his work, trying to improve the lives of people suffering great hardship and stigma. He is rewarded by the friendships he encounters, both at work and in the community he lives in, which help him with the traumas he has to overcome. At the end of his placement, he is kept in the country against his will. A book by a real writer, on the wonder of India, full of curiosities, and laughter and tears.
