MIRRORSCOPE takes a wry and darkly humorous look at the fractious, divisive, and jealously guarded world of astronomy after an unexpected discovery threatens to undermine the prevailing cosmological belief. The story opens in the 1950’s and follows the research into the nature of newly discovered ‘radztars’ by astrophysicist, Dr Lee Drexler - recently appointed staff member of a prestigious observatory in the USA. When Drexler’s observations suggest the conventional belief is wrong, his skeptical colleagues turn against him and an elaborate conspiracy is hatched in an attempt to censure his research and thwart the publication of his controversial claims - a conspiracy that closely mirrors the trial of Galileo some three centuries earlier. The novel comes to a surprising, counter-intuitive, mystical climax when Drexler chances upon the acquaintance of Jack Astra – an artist with some radical cosmic insights of his own – and a Platonic dialogue develops between the two men on a world view that transforms our vision of the cosmos.
