Shining Through

On the outskirts of Leicester City centre, the Patterson family, enjoying a quiet Sunday afternoon suddenly have their world turned upside down as the declaration of World War II is announced on the wireless. In just a few days Alfred will be called to fight, leaving behind his wife Jeannie, young Lisa, and two rival teen-aged daughter’s Deborah and Laura. Deborah soon finds herself with a singing career managed by the local ‘spiv,’ though also finds herself pregnant and forced to marry the father. Not wanting to give up her career sister, Laura, comes to the rescue, giving up her own life to become a stay-at-home step mum to her nephew and follows along to the nearby village of Bilesdon. When the new husband, on home-leave, is not happy about Deborah’s situation he protests this the only way he knows how. After meeting a famous film star offering an attractive life in London, sets complications for Deborah. Laura, decides to take her nephew back home to Leicester, where upon their travels they are stopped by a stranger, who not just gives them a lift home, but becomes Laura’s knight in shining armour.
