Alexa is working as a teacher at a London college. She comes from a small eastern European country which a few years ago was freed from the oppression of a foreign regime. The country had elections and the prime minister chosen is head of a religious sect. The new authority is supported by the military, headed by colonel Jeka, a thuggish, opportunistic character. Late one night Alexa is told that her father has been taken ill. She immediately gets on a plane. She finds a CD in her father’s safe with Dorin’s name on it. Dorin, a journalist, is her ex fiancé. Nearly two years ago, he abruptly ended their relationship giving no real reason for his decision. Alexa has never got over him. The CD contains a scanned newspaper cutting of a murder. A woman and her lover were killed in a frenzied attack. Is Dorin investigating this murder? She sets out on a quest to find the truth, a journey which she undertakes against the background of the brutal government.
