Frederick Bailey Deeming was a 19th-century serial killer, bigamist, swindler and jewel thief. Nicknamed ‘Mad Fred’ and ‘The Demon’, he brutally murdered wives and children on opposite sides of the world. At the time of his execution in Australia, he was more infamous than Ned Kelly, but he remains a shadowy figure in his native England, despite speculation that he was Jack the Ripper. This new insight into his savage world tracks his life and movements, and sheds further light on his possible involvement in the Whitechapel murders.
