Time Trial

A group of four young people; Charlie,Alice Richard and Julie had been to a pageant dressed in period costume. On returning to the Family home to find themselves transported back to the time of Charles the first. The civil war has ended and the King is captured by the army,taken to London, put on trial and sentenced to death. The Judge was an army sympathiser and the court was composed of army men. The four time travellers and others loyal to the King follow to London hoping for a chance to stage a rescue.They are received by Thomas Gwyn,father of Nell, who introduces Robert's Boyle and Hooke scientists. Charlie proposes a rescue plan which entails changing places with the King and by means of a wooden clad farm cart effecting a rescue from the scaffold. Boyle and Hooke by converting the cart and, among other equipment,a large hot air balloon made to look like the Devil. The plan goes wrong and Charlies life is threatened.
