Tried in Righteousness- An Exposition of the Gospel of John Vol 1: Chapters 1-5

A commentary upon the first five chapters of the Gospel of John with general and detailed commentaries on each chapter concentrating upon the meaning of the language, symbolism, dialogues and historical context of each. A large number of historical sources are referred to in endeavouring to establish the correct meaning of the gospel including Jewish Rabbinic, Greek Hellenistic and Mesopotamian Mandaean texts in which similar language and symbolism appear besides the evidence of the Dead Sea Scrolls of the Essenes and the Apocrythal Old and New Testament writings. But the chief background against which the gospel is interpreted is of course the Old Testament itself. The book is subdivided into "General Commentary" and "Detailed Commentary" for each of the five chapters considered to distinguish between simpler exposition and what is more technical and academic.
