Up Drainpipes to Diran
This is a memoir of a father who died climbing during the 1950s post Everest rush to the Himalaya. His first experience of climbing was up the drainpipes of the tenement buildings in which he was brought up in east London. His last ascent was up Diran, an unclimbed mountain in the Karakoram. The memoir also describes the daughter's coming to terms with her loss which is helped by the miraculous return of his ice axe some 40 years later.
