Valley of Stone

The story of Jozef, an orphaned gypsy boy who becomes a War Lord as Yugoslavia breaks up; his reaction when the brutal gang who murdered his parents come into his hands; his obsessive love for a female thief; another woman's obsessive love for him; his accommodation with a rival War Lord; his need to hide his origins, which he is willing to do but is ashamed of doing. A well written book exploring the character of its protagonist in depth.
