War Games

War Games is set in the twenty-second century. In a world where the human population has been decimated by a series of plagues, the British Isles are run by a military elite. Cloning has produced a race of serfs, the ‘clonies’, who are able to reproduce and meet the need for unskilled labour. Cloning has also produced a new hobby for the very rich- war gaming played with real soldiers, ‘models’ only a hundred millimeters tall, cloned from human embryos. One of these ‘armies’ is that of General Watson, who owns the Big House. Through a series of events some of the models begin to envisage a future beyond that of miniature soldiers waiting to die. In the ensuing confrontation three of them find themselves hiding in the wainscoting of the Big House, desperately avoiding the rats and the household cat. While they are waiting to escape the plagues return. This time they will eventually annihilate the human race. The clonies in their enclosed communities rebel and they too become infected by the plagues. The only future lies with the diminutive and despised models. Freed from domination they set out to build a new world of their own.
