Profile: karola feld

About This Author

My full name is Karola Freidenfeld, but I shortened it to Feld. I was born in Belgrade in 1939 into a large Jewish family, and a few Greek-Orthodox non-believers. Some of the members belonged to the Communist underground party and thanks to them my mother and I survived the atrocities of WW2. In 1949 my mother, my stepfather and I immigrated to the newly established State of Israel, where life wasn't easy. I started working as a secretary at the age of 16 and attended high-school in the evenings. Later I completed a correspondence course in journalism and contributed articles to a youth magazine. In 1962 an American benefactor enabled me to study English in London, where I remained for some years. In 1963 I married and later had two children, a boy and a girl. My husband and I lived in several countries due to his work as a lecturer in Sociology and Politics. I studied Russian language and literature in Northern Ireland as a mature student. In 1977 I started my career in the City of London in various capacities and for various companies. My marriage broke down. I remarried but due to my serious ill health I resigned from my job and immigrated with my new husband to Andalusia Spain to enjoy blue skies and sunshine, where I still live albeit on my own as my husband passed away. My main interests are literature, music and travelling. I speak six languages, some better than others.
