Glasgow-born Nancy McKnight has spent many years working as a journalist, as well as having several short stories published in collections. She lives in south west Scotland with her husband, two Afghan hounds and three cats. White Cranes Dancing, her first full-length novel, is the first part of the Balvaig Trilogy, centred round a village on an island in the Inner Hebrides.
