Profile: Martha Ashwell

About This Author

Martha Ashwell was born in Manchester. Her first book, a memoir, ‘Celia’s Secret: A Journey towards Reconciliation’, was published in 2015 and edited in 2022 as a revised edition. ‘Sights and Sounds’, a short story, was included in the anthology: ‘Something About Home: New Writing on Migration and Belonging’, in 2017. Her prize-winning poem ‘The Theatre of War’ was published in the Buzzin Bards: A Manchester Poetry Anthology in 2019. As a member of the Manchester Irish Writers, she has contributed to a number of MIW public performances at the Irish World Heritage Centre. Martha is also a member of South Manchester Writers’ Workshop. Her debut historical novel, ‘The Happening at Bessbrook’ was published in March 2022. She is currently researching a new novel and writing a series of children’s stories in collaboration with her daughter, Clare and daughter-in-law Nicola. http://marthaashwell.co.uk/
