Profile: Roy Gould

About This Author

Roy Gould was born in 1953 in London. The Hospital he was born in is now a supermarket. His father, being a policeman, the family, consisting of mother, father and two elder brothers, moved from police house to police house in and around the Home Counties. He didn’t really excel in school apart from in Drama, which, in part, was due to the fact he had a crush on his drama teacher. From school he trained to become a theatre Stage Manager and was one of the youngest students at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). After working his way through Repertory Theatre and touring with Agatha Christie plays, he worked on a series of large scale hit musicals in London’s West End. From there he joined BBC Television as a Floor Assistant (Runner) and worked his way through the ranks until he landed a job working with the top comedy Writer and Producer, David Croft as his 2nd Assistant Director. He worked for David Croft for nearly 30 years, off and on, as 1st A.D and Director on over 150 shows. He has also developed and produced 3 full length comedy drama films, ‘The Booze Cruise’ with his own company for the ITV network, which won two Royal Television Society (RTS) Awards. He is huge fan of the Ealing comedies produced in the 1950’s. This is his first book.
