2007. Madeleine Delmas is a young French journalist working in London. Mathieu Maltemps is elected as the new French President. At a joint press conference with the British Prime Minister, Maltemps spots Madeleine, and over the months that follow a friendship develops that grows ever closer. In parallel, the British Government turns energy policy towards nuclear power, and co-operation with countries like France that have expertise in the sector. But figures with key responsibilities in the British sector are murdered, in unexplained assaults in the streets of Paris. Madeleine's coverage of these events, and her liaison with Maltemps, lead her to the discovery of dangerous secrets, and a final deadly climax in the Parisian underworld.
