Unknown to the world's population, for over three thousand years the world's weather has been magically controlled by magicians. Ickerbod Truespell the thirteenth secret magician is in trouble, his replacement should have arrived at the control centre one hundred and fifty years ago. With no one to take over from him, Ickerbod invented a weather machine that would be capable of taking control. Unfortunately, the machine was stolen just after he had put it into its test mode. Desperate to retrieve it before its test mode is completed and it automatically goes into work mode, Ickerbod must find Alamus Falagon the rival magician he suspects is responsible for the theft. Forbidden to leave his observation screen he recruits five boys and persuades them to travel to Farmadore another World where he and all the secret magicians came from, and where he believes the thief has taken his machine.
