MY GRANDFATHER'S TALES

The book tells a group of stories, all following the summer holiday experiences of the fictional ‘author’ when he was a young child. The book is centred on a young child’s (Charlie) love of his Grandfather and the lingering memories of the Grandfather’s own childhood experiences. The book attempts to deal with themes of the excitement and mystery of childhood and the awakening of adult relationships in an accessible, moving, and uplifting way. Each story is wrapped around interesting events, facts and characters that broaden the knowledge of the reader: Biggin Hill ‘Dog’ Fights’, a phantom dog, smugglers, a UFO, Jewish escapees from Vienna in the war, the young Queen Elizabeth and the bombing of Buckingham Palace. Charlie listens intently to these, some of his grandfather’s tales.
