Selling Water by the River

This book is about my understanding. It will try to present what I have learned from my seven decades’ experience of living, and the result of many years of quietly observing what it means to be human. It does not present any great insights or wisdom … it is simply an expression of my need to share what has been understood from my life. Others may make of it what they will; it prescribes no set of beliefs or values, but invites all who read these words to see for themselves whether there is anything of value in them. The book’s title (borrowed from Zen Buddhism) was chosen to indicate that Life’s truths lay all around us and are freely available to everyone … right here and now. Following a brief summary of non-duality (Advaita Vedanta), the book consists of a series of reflections, aphorisms or pointers towards the reality of Oneness. They are designed to be read slowly and digested with the heart rather than the mind. Open up to any meaning which may be revealed. This is not philosophy, which suggests an intellectual and theoretical process, but a direct and intuitive inquiry into who you really are - an open secret.
