The Diamond Makers
The discovery of a method for making very large gem diamonds from rare earth minerals mined on a tract of land owned by the protagonist of this novel, a simple village girl from Cameroon, but controlled by a Congolese war lord, may be the salvation of a perilous expedition deep into the jungle. A gang of misfits including South Africa apartheid believer, a Mississippian boat captain, a Welsh scientist an Irish priest and a mixed crew of ruffians are led by her son, well educated in England by his English father. Together, while discovering truths about themselves and each other, they may become extremely rich.
This book is technically interesting and the characters are satisfyingly real and complex
