The Ferryman

By Jo Keye
A vigilante is on the loose. A young delinquent is found stretched out with his hands nailed to the wooden dock of the local ferry landing. The Ferryman has been paid. Under the lad’s tongue is a coin and a label tied around his neck: “Clean the scum off the streets, or I will do it.” Detective Sergeant David Paige and his team know they have only a short breathing space before the killer strikes again. Sooner or later, if the killings continue, an innocent person will fall victim. What with problems in his marriage, conflict amongst his team, and SNAP (Steve Knapp, a local investigative reporter who’s not above taking advantage of the situation), DS David Paige has his work cut out. The killer is always one step ahead, as though he knows what they are planning. Then comes a blow that knocks the investigation off course. Evidence is found that points a finger at Paige as being prime suspect. He has to put all his trust in a rookie DC who is being blatantly sidelined through racial and sexual prejudice.
