Profile: Jim Gunn
About This Author
Jim hails from Shetland and has masters degrees in philosophy and the humanities. He is a yachtmaster and has travelled extensively, particularly around the Mediterranean, and his books are based largely on his experiences. 'Across the Bay' is an historical, romantic thriller set against memories of childhood stories handed down from the old folk. He has researched these in some depth and found them to be not far from the truth, even going back as far as the mid-eighteenth century to a time when class and religious divisions mattered so much - as they often matter today. One of his ancestors, Olaf Gunn, fled the battlefield of Culloden Moor to set up his new home in Shetland. 'Across the Lake' is a contemporary thriller about Islamic terrorists and their impact on an ordinary Western family. Its colourful characters are based on people he encountered during his travels throughout the Middle East. While friendly, these people were readily expressive with their feelings and beliefs about Mideast politics and the Arab Spring. 'Port Hopping the Costas Brava and Dorada' is an account of a couple of months spent living aboard a sports cruiser exploring the Catalonian coastline, and what you might expect to find on the way. This experience is an example of what you might decide to do in your spare time - if you have any. Boating is an excellent way to explore foreign parts from a different angle, learn a new craft and have a good time doing it.
