Fight for Life

In the nineteenth century, there was a stark choice facing so many people. Work hard for little money and then suffer the early death of a pauper. Or turn to thieving and hang. Thievery was a fact of life; the reflex response to poverty. Two lads denied that ill-fated reaction. Helped by the physiques that God gave them and a mind-set acquired through time, they chose to fight for their lives on the running track and in the boxing ring. Joe learned to run like a young god and became known as 'Speed'. His brother fought like the devil and almost went to Hell. Instead he was transported to Australia.
