About This Author

I was born in Leicestershire and held a career in the retail finance industry for forty years. Now, I am able to develop my passion for creative writing – especially ghost stories! I draw inspiration for my writing through a passion for history, both ancient and modern, as well as walking and photographing the English landscape. I have a particular fondness for West Berkshire, Wiltshire, Northumbria, East Anglia and West Cornwall and these places often infuence my writing. In between all of that, I follow the (mis)fortunes of Leyton Orient FC, or put the worlds to right with friends at the local. The protagonists in "The Daughters of Carrawburgh" are explored further in "The Golden Goddess" ( to be republished soon) and "The Mystery of Doe Eyes"; each taking their turn on centre stage. The fourth novel, "The Wildess" is the denouement, and is in preparation. I have written several short stories, some of which appear in"Ghosts and Femmes Fatales" a collection of tales that explore the supernatural. My favourite author is MR James, the inventor of the quintessential English ghost story; an ingenious blend off myth and folklore with a flickering shadow or an eerie sound from something seen or the imagination sends a greater chill down the spine than graphic horror. I enjoy reading work from other classic ghost story writers as well as from contemporary authors ('Dark Matter' by Michelle Paver is a particular favourite). I am also a fan of the traditional gothic horror I also read some science fiction, gearing towards the contemplative rather than adventures involving armies, empires and wars etc). My tastes range from subjects as diverse as the Helliconia trilogy by Brian Aldiss to Doctor Who. If these type of books appeal, I hope you will give mine a try. They will appeal to those who like to immerse themselves in a fantasy/adventure story but prefer a contemporary setting that is enriched by myth, folklore, and the mysteries of our landscape and prehistoric heritage. These stories are about stone circles and the ghosts of Roman soldiers rather than worlds populated by monsters, dragons, and trolls, and dwell on our imagination as well as love and human emotion.
