Profile: Nigel Plane

About This Author

Nigel Plane was born in Leicestershire and held a career in the retail finance industry for forty years. He draws inspiration for his writing through a passion for history, both ancient and modern, as well as walking and photographing the English landscape, especially the Berkshire downs, Wiltshire, Northumbria, East Anglia and West Cornwall. Echoes of prehistoric monuments, and our Romano-Britain past often influences his work. His favourite author is MR James, the inventor of the quintessential English ghost story but enjoys other classic ghost story writers as well as contemporary authors such as Michelle Paver ('Dark Matter' and 'Thin Air'), novels by Michel Faber ('Crimson Petal and the White', 'One hundred and ninety-nine Steps' and 'Under the Skin', selected traditional gothic horror, and, occasionally, science fiction - Brian Aldiss (Helliconia trilogy) and Alastair Reynolds for example.
