About This Author

Alex Fan Moniz (Alexandre Fã Moniz) is a British poet, writer, linguist, teacher, photographer and lyricist. Born in Portugal, he has spent his lifetime between the UK, Switzerland, Germany, Australia, South Africa and periods in Romania, Italy, Brazil, Denmark, China, and other countries. He studied Creative Writing and Applied Linguistics MA’s at ARU Cambridge. He speaks several European languages. In 1992, one of his poems As Cinzas (The Ashes) was selected by the Academia de Coimbra (one of the world's oldest universities) at literary initiative, Indiferença for young creative talents. Photographic works featured at the annual event Indaba Durban Tourism (South Africa) 2011, ARBI project, The University of Sydney/Sydney Medical School (Australia) 2012. His first book Colours of South Africa was published in 2013. Journeys on the Underground and Beyond (Series I), his second book, was published in 2014. Debezezi and the Sea Prince is his third book, published in 2015. Die Skree van Stilte, published in 2015 is an Afrikaans translated collection of poems from previous works and some originals. Journeys on the Underground and Beyond (Series II), published in 2016 is a bilingual English-Portuguese publication. He wrote ‘vex’, another collection of original poems in 2017. Short-stories such as ‘Snjóhundur’ (The Snow Dog) and ‘Mozi Toes’ have won him juri recognitions between 2019 and 2020. He has also published academic essays on Applied Linguistics. Bietje van Alles... Behalwe ‘n Pierneef (Deel I) is a selection of South African Art and Afrikaans poems, publication 2021.
