Lizzie has had to suffer many challenges already in her life. Having reached middle age, she is having to cope with nursing her mother, Joyce, who has Alzheimer's Disease. Joyce makes comments that Eric, her husband, is not Lizzie's natural father. Not sure if it is the disease causing Joyce to ramble and make these comments, at first Lizzie ignores them. As Joyce persists, Lizzie finds the courage to mention it to her father, who astounds her by saying Joyce may well be speaking the truth. Eric agrees to a DNA test and the results confirm he is not Lizzie's natural father. It all becomes too much for Lizzie and she has a health breakdown, but as she recovers, she does a lot of evaluating her life so far. It finally dawns on her, how she has been the cause of some of the events that have happened to her. Eventually finding her natural father, Herbert, helps her recover. Sadly for Terry, Lizzie's ex husband, his wife Jenny dies of cancer at a young age. The friendship between Terry and Lizzie starts up again and eventually leads to much happiness for all the family.
