Ma Blackstock's Place
The Blackstock house is a large Victorian building in which Ma Blackstock, a widow runs a sort of boarding house charging fairly cheap rates and running it with a stron element of community almost family involved in the way it works. The disperate residents of the house make the story ranging from a reformed gambling adict seeking a new way of life to an ultra shy seamstress who has no life at all. It includes a couple of young chaps one at universioty, one struggling to get somewhere at work, a Polish immigrant and a woman worried about being left on the shelf.Ma's feisty young grandaughet plays a big part with her father doing his best to upset the apple cart. The novel id concerned with the adventures of thes people culminating in a crisi during which M dies.It tried to examine something of the different ways of life of the characters who live at Ma's Place.
