Profile: Robin Perry

About This Author

Robin Perry began writing poetry at the age of 16 and with a few lapses has continued writing for more than 50 years. He schooled in Manchester before going on to study English Language and Literature at Sheffield University. After university he travelled and worked in mainland Europe and Africa for nearly two years and this marked a change in his writing from personal poetry to a growing awareness and concern for the peoples, their cultures and situations in the countries he visited. Upon returning to the UK he went on to work for 25 years as a social worker primarily with adults with mental health problems and those with learning and physical disabilities. He subsequently trained and worked as a teacher and then later on for 10 years as a careers adviser working with young people in schools and the community. Prior to the Coronavirus outbreak he had set up his own part-time non-profit careers service operating in the Leicestershire area but which has at present been suspended because of the pandemic. He also undertakes voluntary wildlife surveys both for the Leicester City Council and for Butterfly Conservation. Since 1991 his writing has gathered pace and abundance and he has written nearly 3,000 poems and several short novella. His main themes have been about wildlife and the environment, social and philosophical topics, some of the countries he has visited and also about Christian spirituality. He has won first prize in two poetry competitions and had high placings in several others as well as more than 50 poems published both in his own first publication "Out of the Wild" and in various magazines and booklets.
