The sky was a black as pitch when I stepped down from the aircraft at Dhahran International Airport in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia - not all all what the poets proclaimed to be the star-studded desert nights was true! I saw nothing but blackness and became engulfed in the heat and stink of refining oil and sulphur fumes; my clothes sticking to me immediately like a second skin die to the humidity.
