BURNLEY TO BINGLEY A Transpennine Trail. Jim Jarratt. I began here! Based on a crossing of the Lancashire/Yorkshire watersheds between the valleys of the Lancashire Calder and the Yorkshire River Aire, this challenging (but not overly gruelling) hike, of about ten hours duration, takes you through time and history. It winds its way through a lonely, bleak, and austere landscape, often rain lashed and windswept, managing, despite the inroads of prehistoric hunters, drovers, hill farmers, delvers, navvies, civil engineers, evangelists, gamblers, cannabis farmers, fly tippers and wind farm developers, to retain its wild, elemental, character against all the odds! I fell in love with these uplands as a child, and have lived hereabouts most of my adult life. Unfinished business, this long overdue book has been a labour of love! Jim Jarratt 2024.
