A Question of Honour

Just prior to WW2, Commander Somersby of Royal Naval intelligence passed a woman on the grand staircase of the Home Office in Whitehall. As they glanced at each other, for the first time in his life, the commander fell instantly in love. It transpired the lady was a high ranking offcial in the Home Security and their paths were to cross again in the course of duty. Some months after that first glance, Somersby discovered the lady was engaged to his army brother. After the war broke out and Miss Quintrelle was now married to Major Garsington, she discovered she was pregnant. Expecting twins. At the end of the war, Mrs Garsington received a telegram informing her her husband had been killed. She then dicovered Commander Somersby, now Lord Stokelacey, had been appointed sole guardian of her children which caused a personal war between her and her brother-in-law, which took years to reconcile.
